Facebook ‘Nearby Friends’ Will Track Your Location History To Target You With Ads

Facebook recently launched its new flagship feature called nearby Friends which will let you know if any of your friends is near to you geographically using GPS technology but recently FB discloses that they will be saving their user locations history in order to target them for ads and for market purposes. The feature go live this morning to iOs users with “Locations history” setting and in order to use the Nearby Friends this setting must be left ON. FB explains that you can turn it off but it must be left ON for using some other features and nearby friends too. Also and beyond that FB will still be saving your location history in your posts and status so no matter if you turn it off, they will still collect your locations. If you’re using it you will see your coordinates updated in your activity log, but if you wanted to see your history right below all categories, seems FB don’t want you to turn it off.

TechCunch says “By tracking where you are, Facebook could show you more relevant News Feed stories from friends or Pages nearby. For example, if Facebook sees I’m in the North Beach district of San Francisco instead of my home district of the Mission in the South of the city, it might increase the likelihood that I’d see status updates from friends who live up there, or an Italian restaurant in the area who’s Page I Liked. It could also suggest Events happening nearby.”

It looks like when tech is evolving it evolve with some bad habits but FB will not discourage their users with some spying or something, companies like One Medical Group, Google, Dropbox and some others are trying to please their customer with line of products.
